How Do the Little Things Make Such A Big Difference?

Just returning from attending an event hosted by Dixie “Dynamite” Gillaspie in St. Louis this weekend I sat down to catch up on some of my favorite blogs and read the following phrase: “quite often it’s the obscure things that we do…that we don’t even notice…that are meaningful and memorable to others…” this saying, from one of my new favorite blogs by Jane Carroll, a dear and inspiring friend, really got me to thinking about the weekend and an incredible thing that happened. It seemed like such a small thing unfolding, kind of like the phrase above, it really wasn’t a part of the big picture, yet it made a huge impact.

One of the other attendees had spoken with one of the presenters, Tom Ruwitch, who happened to remember meeting him just over two years ago. Tom being the amazing person he is started the conversation by asking about the project he had been working on at that time. Yes, Tom remembered the details of a project of someone he had not seen or spoken with in over two years. In fact, the attendee himself had actually forgotten the project. Today, he was at a point where he was struggling with how to put together what he was doing with what he loved, that was one of his motivations for even attending this event. Once Tom reminded him of the project it was a total lightbulb moment; he now knew exactly how it all fit together and what he wanted to do. His vision had returned, he was excited and completely focused. Amazing isn’t it? Something so small as remembering a detail about the other person totally impacted their life.

This had nothing to do with what Tom was presenting on, his specialty is marketing, yet Tom wasn’t thinking about himself or what was in it for him. Two years ago when he met the attendee he took the time to really listen for a few seemingly insignificant moments and those few moments would eventually make a tremendous impact.

Sometimes it’s the little things we do that make the biggest difference, has this ever happened to you?

I Wanna Make Lots of Mistakes!

mistakesI want to make lots of mistakes. I just don’t want to keep making the same mistake over and over.

We are taught or conditioned that we need to get to this place where we make no mistakes. If you are learning, growing and trying things you have never done odds are you will make mistakes. The more things you step out of your comfort zone and try the more you risk mistakes. Keep doing the same thing again and again, going the same places the less risk of mistake.

Being willing to make mistakes doesn’t mean I won’t pay attention, put in hours of practice or try my best at what I do. It means I am willing to risk making mistakes to keep trying to stretch further and go outside my comfort zone in everything I do.

So mistakes are a natural part of the learning process that need not be feared. Learning from them gives you the opportunity to go even further the next time.

What do you think, does learning from a mistake make it worth it?

Seven Ways to Get More Out of Giving It Away Free

The question of why give away information free and how much should be given often comes up for entrepreneurs, coaches and consultants. This week I was talking with a client who was discouraged because she had been doing free workshops and felt too many people were taking advantage of the freebie and nothing more. She was considering no longer giving away anything free, although she was getting paying business from the workshops too. Unfortunately that is the conclusion many draw when they offer something free and it does not work, that they get taken advantage of when they give something away free and they shouldn’t do it.

Giving it away free is a strategy that can and does work brilliantly, just ask Seth Godin who does it with his new Domino Project. He certainly does not have too, he already has many bestselling books, the credibility and the tribe built to sell pretty much anything.  It can also work brilliantly for any entrepreneur; it may take time to figure out the best method for you and your products or services.

Here are a few tips that can help you get more out of giving it away free.

It is your sales call – every business needs sales, view your free giveaway as your sales call. It is an easy way to stop making cold calls and generate a lot of warm calls.

You can still sell it – just because you use the information as part of a free giveaway, whether it is a free report, free teleseminar or workshop does not mean you cannot also use that information again. That same information can be used and most likely expanded on in other programs.

Use it as an interest test – test different free offers to track client interest. I have changed free offers and seen interest double in the exact same program. It can help you gauge interest for developing new programs, try something as a freebie, if there is big interest chances are it will do well as a full-blown program.

Always make them want more – Don’t give everything away. Don’t give so much away that the potential client wants no more. Leave them wanting more information.

Always have a Call to Action – this is a BIG ONE! Often I see a freebie intended to get people on an email list which is great but that’s the end of it. Make that freebie more enticing and have a call to action at the end. Keep your prospective client moving through your programs as long as you can help them.  If you are giving a free speech or interview that you do not want to make a sales pitch, that’s great too, but don’t miss out on a chance to leave them with a call to action. If you want more specific ideas on this one simply send me an email with CALL TO ACTION in the subject line to edie@getyourcourgeon.com.

Don’t give away junk – giving away your low value items because it keeps your costs down or is easy will be seen as just that. It will not create value for you or the customer. It is a waste of time.

Know your conversion factor – it is great to giveaway a free report or eBook when asking someone to join your email address, bigger returns on bigger giveaways require strategy, planning and tracking. If you are doing a free in-person workshop to sell a five-week program you’re investing more in the giveaway.  It may be just as easy to do this with a teleseminar and save the costs.

Giving away free information gives you a chance to reach potential customers in a way nothing else does. It is a great opportunity when used wisely. Will some people take the free stuff and run, absolutely, be ready to accept some will buy and some will not! When you are doing sales calls many people will say no too, it is all a part of being in business.  Figuring out your successful strategy for giving it away free is well worth the time, effort and investment.

What Obstacle is Stopping You?

Obstacles in your mind are smaller than they seem.

What do you think about that keeps you from doing what you want to do?

Do you remember when you wanted to ride a bike and how hard it seemed like it would be? How about driving a car, big and scary right? Things you do now without even thinking about them.

I bet you can come up with a few things that once seemed beyond your reach that you do with ease now.

When we think about doing things they can seem much bigger and more difficult than when we actually do them.

How about you, do you have something you want to do now that the obstacles in your mind are holding you back from?

It Is Time To Give Up Hope!

There is a time and a place for hope. The people in Japan need our hope and our prayers.

If you are a speaker or do any type of presentations if you use the word hope, it is time to give it up.

Why give up hope?

If you tell your audience or client, I hope to..…fill in the blank….STOP HOPING and DO IT!

Why? Because you can share, educate, help, guide, whatever you do for your audience or client, you can and will do it.
When you tell them you hope to do it, you leave them with some doubt about your abilities to actually accomplish it. They start to wonder if you are really going to do it. Is that what you want or do you want them to have complete confidence in what you are sharing?

When you say any of these….

I hope to help you
I hope to leave you with
I hope you will understand
I hope you will see

Give your audience confidence with….
I can help you
I will leave you with
I am going to share how you can
I will show you how you can
You will see how you can

So what do you think, are you hoping it will happen, or are you doing it?

It is Not OK, You Deserve More!

I cannot begin to tell you how many people I have spoken to recently who tell me with great enthusiasm how they have finally found their passion and purpose in life. Then, with a total lack of enthusiasm, they explain to me how much it is costing them because they believe in it and want to make a difference, but they have not found a way to work it that supports them.

It is not ok to be able to work your passion and purpose without making money! Making money does not have to be hard; money can come easy and you can have fun making money. It is ok to love what you do and make money. You can give and receive.

If you have found your passion and purpose, that is absolutely wonderful! If you have not created a way for it to support you, that is not ok. Ask yourself this, “Are there other people and/or companies doing the same or similar things profitably? Chances are the answer is yes, and that means something is holding you back from being in the same position. You deserve more!

Whatever holds you back has got to go—whether it is limited money beliefs, or fears which often masquerade as many other seemingly valid reasons. It is time for you to be successful! The time is now not only because you bringing your passion and purpose to life is important, the time is now because there are many other people that desperately need exactly what you have to offer. Your success helps others be successful as well.

What beliefs would you have to let go of to bring your passion and purpose to life so you can have a bigger impact? What would you have to be open to in order to have your passion and purpose bring money into your life and support you beautifully?

Do you think is it time for your passion and purpose to support you?
