Be honest, do you have meeting or being on Oprah on your goals or vision board? Working with entrepreneurs and authors I have seen this at least 100 times and I am sure there are thousands more out there. I have also heard it many times from guests on my radio show.
Now, I completely believe in the power of goals, written goals and the huge difference a vision board or dream book can make. I have been doing them for over fifteen years and have the solid proof of the results.
The question is though, is meeting Oprah the WHAT or the HOW of what you want? If you just want to meet Oprah for the sake of meeting and talking with her then wonderful. Meeting Oprah is the WHAT and that is great. But I would guess there is more to what you want than that. If meeting OPRAH is HOW you think you will gain exposure, credibility, sales, etc…then you ARE limiting yourself. An important key for setting goals and making vision boards is identifying WHAT not the HOW.
“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” Paul Coelho
A good example of the WHAT not the HOW is Lewis Howes, his WHAT was a career in sports, he started out as a record breaking arena football player but that ended quickly with an injury. At no time did he waiver from his WHAT even though he had no idea HOW it would happen. Two short years later he is Author of the LinkedIn Book “LinkedWorking”, Founder of Sports Executives Association and a highly sought after Sports Social Media Consultant. He never set out to write a book or form the largest network on LinkedIn, it all happened as a byproduct of his WHAT. Sitting home recouperating from his injury unable to play again he discovered Linkedin started networking and in a way it had not previously been done before created his successful sports career.
Absolutely set goals, make a vision book or board. But DON’T limit yourself, something bigger and better than Oprah could come along for you. You give it the opportunity to happen much quicker and easier if you decide what you want and allow the how to develop as you are working toward it. Have the courage to get WHAT you really want!

Great post to help us keep our goals inline and our eye on the ball.
Thanks for the mention Edie!
Great Post! I was directed to your post from a Lewis Howes Tweet! He is wonderful! I'm happy to be following your blog now! Cheers!
I guess so many think Oprah is magic – if they could just touch her…
I will admit – meeting Oprah is on my 'People I'd Love to Make Dinner Together in the Kitchen With' list. I would enjoy a few hours in her company as I'd truly love to give to others as she does. The inspiration would fill me ~ and getting a chance to 'intuitively see' her would mean a lot to me too. I loved this post Edie – thank you!
Greetings, I love your article. This is a good site and I wanted to post a little note to let you know, good job! Thanks Tammy
